The Mendip Nomad
Welcome to my blog. My name is Tom Osborne, and while I've lived in many places, and don't live there now, I call the Mendip Hills of Somerset home. Hence the title of this blog and my blogging pseudonym elsewhere. I'm also a Presbyter (often called a Minister) in the Methodist Church but the views you'll find here are all my own (unless I specifically say so). Please do feel free to comment if you so wish, you certainly don't have to agree with me, all I ask is that you keep it civilised.

Outro: Last Words
On this past Sunday evening I led a worship service at one of my chapels, based around the Last Words of Jesus. It used modern, secular music to help the congregation to reflect on the words of scripture that recount … Continue reading
God is in this place
Wow, so, it’s aaaaaaages since I last blogged! So much has been going on since then, including the amazing experience of ordination, the challenging experience of bringing a Border Collie puppy into the Nomad family, and the exciting experience of … Continue reading

Gaudete!
Following on from the Jewish understanding that the day starts in the evening some Christian traditions consider the evening services to be the first of the following day – hence Midnight Mass is the first service of Christmas, not the … Continue reading
Body, Mind and Soul Music (Worship Diptych, pt 2)
So, as I commented on Facebook Sunday night, that evening I led a Eucharist that was a little different. While it wasn’t a silent, or wordless, Communion, it did feature fewer words than usual. Inspired by various things, including my … Continue reading

Out of Time
In case people hadn’t noticed, my post titles are often song titles or plays on song titles. My previous post title was in reference to U2’s “11 o’clock tick tock”. I thought about making up my missed post on Friday … Continue reading
A Southern Man
I’m one of many users of the music service Spotify. I use it for many reasons – mainly supplementing my already reasonably-sized music collection (made up of both CDs and downloads), but it also recommends music to me I might … Continue reading
Desert Island Discs
Before I even arrived here in Saltash I was invited to take part in a part-social, part-getting-to-know-the-new-minister event at one of the chapels in my charge, based on the Desert Island Discs format. It happened last night and, out of … Continue reading
